Update on Devon
He is still home on bedrest and on a high dose of antibiotics. We are waiting for the Specialist to call and schedule an appointment for surgery removal of the hernia. Devon is a sweet special kid that needs a lot of prayer for a fast recovery. He is very fortunate that the outcome was not what his Pediatrician expected. He is very uncomfortable at home playing catch up on schoolwork that I picked up for him for the rest of the week. Thank goodness that we got one of the best outcomes possible. He is scared to have the surgery, but I told him "aren't we all, surgery is no fun for anyone".
Lawyers, Hospitals, Love.... and God
A couple weeks ago we went to a lawyer to see about getting custody for Devon and Ryan. This has been a long ongoing issue which has a lot of affect on their lives. We can't legally sign them up for a school, we can't get them a driver license if their under 18. We can't get the health insurance and medical treatment. Their biological mother and father have failed them greatly and after talking with the lawyer there is some up side. He is very positive that we can get the custody we need. The simple things such as worrying about if they are going to get hurt playing sports at school and us having to say no because they do not have insurance will be a thing of the past.
Yesterday Devon had to be picked up from school at lunch because of a pain he was having in his groin, which was ongoing from the previous day. It sounded like it was maybe a bladder infection or uti however it got bad enough for Devon to not be able to function at school. Michelle took him to the doctor and they thought that the tube was possibly wrapped around his testicle and that he may lose it. They sent them over the childrens hospital right away. There they had an ultra sound done and found that he has an infection that aggravated a hernia that he has had since birth. He is on antibiotic and needs to have outpatient surgery done. He is home the rest of the week on bed rest.
When ever there is a child in your life, whether their yours biologicaly, adopted, step, grand, niece/newphew, whatever the circumstances, there is a simple question that you can ask yourself that at first seems like it has a rather complex answer. That is "How do I know that I love this child" and the answer is simple. You know when you put them before yourself, and that you ask God to place burden upon yourself in their place. This endearning feeling only brings us closer to understanding the sacrifice that Jesus made for all of us.
God made us in his image and likeness, however we spend most of our lives feeling weak and feeble. Thats because we are looking for a bigger picture, an answer to all our questions, a greatness that we think should be so apparent. Its that we don't take the time to stop and look at all the little miracles around us, when you do it's amazing.
